5th Annual Larchmere Porchfest
The 5th Annual Larchmere PorchFest is 30 Bands on 30 Porches
Saturday, June 22, 2013
Porch Performances: 1PM-8PM, After Parties: 8PM-10PM
Larchmere PorchFest is a one-day event featuring some of the top regional musicians performing music on front porches throughout Cleveland’s Larchmere neighborhood.
2013 Highlights:
• As always, PorchFest will present a wide array of music genres from PorchFest favorites such as Oldboy, ShiSho, and Universal Funk Mob and new bands including: Steev Inglish, Fever Fever, and Early Girl.
• Harmonia, highlighting Larchmere’s own, Steven Greenman, will open PorchFest at 1pm.
o Harmonia’s music is drawn from both the urban and rural traditions of Eastern-Europe styled after turn of the century Gypsy bands. Harmonia is described as “obscenely talented” by the Folklore society of Washington D.C. and “a musical gem” by National Public Radio.
• Porch Finale performances:
o 6PM - We the People - Described as “Aggressively Funky Rock with a smile and swagger. Dance-demanding, foot-tapping, and electric.” We the People combine the fun and funk of its 60s and 70s music heroes resulting in “rock and roll that jumps and bumps with a little more sweaty bass than most and a lot more dancing than usually happens at a live show.”
o 7PM - Jah Messengers – During last year’s PorchFest performance, Jah Messengers got the massive crowd on their feet dancing, thus sealing their fate for an invite to do the PorchFest finale in 2013. Vocalist Wayne Aiken, a native of Jamaica who has called Cleveland home for decades, describes their music as ”roots reggae,” which is distinguished from the rock feel of mainstream reggae. “Roots reggae has the drum, bass and the rhythm section that sets it apart.”
• After-Parties from 8-10pm will be at Jezebels Bayou, Felice Urban Café and Academy Tavern.
• “Vintage” t-shirts and compilation CDs are currently for sale at the $5 anniversary price at The Dancing Sheep (12712 Larchmere).
• Access to this family-friendly event is FREE to the public.
• Ride RTA’s Blue Line Rapid all day between Larchmere PorchFest and the Shaker Heights Arts and Music Festival for $1! Get your $1 hand stamp at the PorchFest Info Tent at 12629 Larchmere Boulevard or at the City of Shaker Heights tent at the Arts & Music Festival.
Larchmere PorchFest is unlike any other event in Cleveland. It brings together the amenities of residential living in Larchmere with the rich cultural texture of live, local talent. Larchmere PorchFest is a grassroots initiative of neighbors and friends coming together to create a dynamic experience to market the quality of life in the Larchmere neighborhood.
